900KW Solar Pumping Scheme

SK Technologies was appointed to assist with the retrofitting/replacing of 8 x 55KW variable Speed Drives used in a complete off grid water supply project in a remote region of the Free State. The water is supplied to a dam from the river where the pumps are located. The water is pumped over a distance of about 3km at an elevation of the about 70meters.

SK Technologies also assisted in the design and implementation of a PLC Controlled system which communicates with the 8 off VSD’s over Modbus TCP. This was used to assign master and slave pump sets based on there running hours as well as selecting a new master pump set in the event of a failure on the master set. The available power from the PV array is also monitored and VSD’s are brought on/offline to enable optimum performance for the pumps.

In conjunction with the this our customer has also developed an API by which the end user can monitor and control their system.
