As a leading global technology company that energizes the transformation of society and industry to achieve a more productive and sustainable future, ABB in Africa provides solutions to improve the efficiency, productivity and quality of our customers’ operations while enabling them to reduce their environmental impact.
Global leader in power and automation technologies
ABB is one of the world’s leading power and automation engineering companies with a diverse portfolio of products and services including energy-efficient transmission and distribution of electricity which helps to increase productivity of the industrial, commercial and utility sectors. At ABB innovation is the backbone of our strategies and we have been the pioneer of many technologies that drive the modern society.
Our portfolio of products and services range from robots that can print cars, light switches, large electrical transformers to control systems that manage entire power networks and factories.
ABB established its first office in North Africa in 1926 in the pyramid city of Cairo, Egypt. But over the past century we have expanded our business across the region and built offices in key countries including Angola, Kenya, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and Zimbabwe.
In South Africa ABB’s Head Offices, logistics and manufacturing center are located at Longmeadow, Johannesburg where several manufacturing operations are carried out including medium voltage switchgear, rectifiers and a robotics programming. At its Alrode, Johannesburg, facility ABB has the AC machines factory which manufactures medium voltage electric motors for both local and foreign customers.
ABB manufactures a range of power and automation products in Egypt to serve the rising local demand for sustainable electrical infrastructure. Our project teams in engineering centers across North Africa can design and deliver a range of complex solutions from providing support to substations, building the intelligent framework of new cities, oil and gas electrification, to electrical infrastructure. These initiatives make up for some of the most exciting new property developments globally.
We offer complete solutions to utilities, including electrical power infrastructure for transmission and distribution networks including associated products and systems. These products include substations, reactive power compensation, water EPC contracts and power plant automation. In the industrial sector, we offer systems, products and services in the areas of pulp and paper, mining, metals and minerals, cement, chemicals and petrochemicals, manufacturing and customer industries.
Our project capabilities include a comprehensive offering from feasibility studies, project management and design to construction, installation, commissioning and customer training. All these offerings are supported by field maintenance and asset performance services. In South Africa, the group has a strong local manufacturing capability with three manufacturing sites around the country.
